“One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way.” -Frank Smith
Welcome to the Woodland Elementary ELL page. The purpose of ELL is to help English learners gain language acquisition and proficiency through the use of research based programs.
EL learners are identified through the Home Language Study, or HLS during the registration process. The HLS is completed when a student enters kindergarten or enters as a new student to TSC. After being identified as an EL learner, the student takes the WIDA test to determine a level of language proficiency. These scores determine the amount of intervention needed to achieve proficiency. We utilize a variety of research based programs to achieve the goal of proficiency including:
- GrapeSeed curriculum for vocabulary development
- Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI)
- Vocabulary A-Z
- Reading A-Z
- Zoo Phonics
- Journey’s ELL intervention
Woodland Elementary has a deep commitment to the education of our EL learners. We continue to educate ourselves on how to best meet the needs of our students. We provide English language support while respecting the native language and cultures of our EL learners. Our goal is to create lifelong learners, who contribute to society and make a lasting impression.
