The SIA Foundation awarded a grant to Woodland Elementary School during its spring grant program.
Woodland received $7,967 to create a pollinator garden and outdoor learning space. Third-grade teacher Jill Shambach says the garden will Incorporate native plants which will attract and sustain pollinators such as butterflies, bees and hummingbirds.
"Educators will also use the garden for authentic learning experiences related to soil, plants, adaptations, and life cycle," says Shambach. "The new garden will allow children to explore and learn about the environment in a natural setting, develop an understanding of how humans can impact the environment, both positive and negative, while providing them with knowledge and encouragement to effect positive change."
