TSC teacher among top finalists for Indiana Teacher of the Year

A contingent of former Indiana teachers of the year and representatives of the Indiana Department of Education made a surprise visit to the classroom of East Tipp teacher Sharita Ware. The engineering and technology teacher was giving instructions to her class when the group came in and announced that she is among the top three finalists for Indiana Teacher of the Year.

Ware is in her tenth year of teaching in the TSC and holds a bachelor’s degree and master's degree from Purdue Polytechnic Institute. In addition to teaching engineering and technology classes, Ware hosts afterschool programs such as FIRST Lego League, the Monday Maker Hour and March Maker Magic, which gives students an outlet to be innovative and creative.

East Tipp Principal Shaad Buss says Ware’s teaching style is very student-centered: “It’s an environment that cultivates individual responsibilities, skills, and motivation. Her lessons and projects allow students to explore their creativity while utilizing the skills taught in the technology classroom.”

The surprise classroom observation is part of the selection process. The state will announce the 2022 Indiana Teacher of the Year later this fall.
